Lágrima is the Portuguese word for tear. The tiny droplet can be seen sparkling around the model's (Cornelius Amadi) eye. Akin to 'The Crying Boy' by Giovanni Bragolin the character here clearly contains intense inner passion. These sentiments are mingled with a proud posture and a flamboyant headdress which seem to float on the lapis lazuli. Subtle gradation of the skin and the midnight azure almost vanish in the lamplike lobstoline form of the white cloth.
